CD Chivas USA v San Jose Earthquakes (MLS)

Chivas USA were held to a disappointing 1-1 draw at home in their week 14 match at home to Red Bull New York at the Home Depot Center. It was an awful offensive performance by Preki's side and had it not been for a big defensive mistake by New York, Chivas may not have scored their equalizer. With the draw Chivas now sit in 4th place of the Western Conference with 18 points, just 1 point behind both 2nd place Real Salt Lake and 3rd place Houston but with 1 match in hand. There are 3 confirmed injury absences at this time in Alex Zotinca, Alecko Eskandarian, top striker Maykel Galindo. Starting defender Lawson Vaughn and back up midfielder Raphael Wicky are listed as doubtful. On a bright note, starting midfielder Paulo Nagamura returns from suspension. This week's match at home to San Jose will be the club's 3rd in 7 days as they will played the Seattle Sounders in the US Open Cup at the beginning of the week. Chivas USA lost that match and were eliminated from the tournament despite having gone with relatively strong lineup which included starters Brad Guzan, Jonathan Bornstein, Shavar Thomas, Sacha Kljestan, and Justin Braun.

The San Jose Earthquakes were able to hold out for a 0-0 draw on the road to Chicago in their week 14 match at Toyota Park. It was a hard earned draw for the side managed by Frank Yallop who are still trying to find consistency in this their first season in the league. This week they are on the road for a 4th straight time when they take on inter-state rivals Chivas USA at the Home Depot Center. San Jose are now in last place of the Western Conference with 12 points from their 14 matches and sit 4 points behind 6th place Colorado. This week the club will be getting some defensive depth back as defender James Riley returns from suspension but they could suffer a key loss in the back line as top defender Ryan Cochrane has been downgraded to doubtful with an ankle injury. The rest of the injured list includes Gavin Glinton and Peguero who have been ruled out, while Adam Smarte, Nick Garcia and Jovan Kirovski join Cochrane as doubtful for this game. The returning James Riley and Jason Hernandez could team up in central defense to cover for both Cochrane and Nick Garcia should they be unable to go.
